Transfers Again The weather seems to be getting warmer! Yep, I just said that. There was a noticeable change this week. Hermana Borup didn’t need to wear a sweater, down coat, and long-sleeved wool shirt when we went out. Now they are telling us that it gets hot in the summer. We are going to believe them. They said it was cold in the winter and they were right. Who is they? We have been serving in a Ward that has not had a Bishop for about 4 months. There is definitely a hole where a Bishop should be. Some of the everyday decisions that need to take place are delayed or absent. However, it is inspiring to see how many of the members of the Ward rally around each other and are willing to serve outside of the parameters of their callings. The members here are just generally inspiring. When we received our call we were worried about what we could do because we thought the members would be strong. We were right, they are strong. We find things to do but it’s not because the members aren’t...

Our 13-year-old friend showed up with a brand-new suit. He borrowed my name tag I don't know if I have seen this type of flower before Together We’re Fluent We took a language test and if you add our scores together,  we are more than fluent. I think that’s the way it works, right? The mission leaders (President and Hermana Manly) asked us to help them motivate and keep track of language learning for the missionaries. This involves encouraging missionaries to have a language study plan, follow it, and take the competency test regularly. The Native English speakers of course are learning Spanish and the native Spanish speakers should be learning English. Learning a second language can change lives especially when a native Spanish speaker learns English. Learning English will greatly increase their ability to support their family and serve in the church. Their challenge is that they aren’t using English all day long. It’s hard to stay motivated. The Spanish learners tend to stop stud...

And On We Go! La obra misional continues in the Peru Lima North Mission. And we love doing our share. Sometimes it feels like we are searching for things to do, trying to find ways to be productive. Everyone we know is super busy in the day and they get home around 8 pm. This gives us the daytime to be productive. This week we filled that time with working in the office, helping to get an apartment ready for a new senior couple and putting together some presentations that will help us spread the good news of the “My Covenant Path” Program. Of course, there’s always time for Gospel and language study. We need a lot of both! We had a missionary activity in our Ward this week. It was simple and to tell the truth, I was a little worried about how it was going to work out. We acted out Lehi’s dream of the Tree of Life. I was the angel that guided him in the dream. I would say they did some typecasting for that role. Angel?... Check. Guide to a dark and dreary place?   Double check! Desp...

The Noise , Noise, Noise, Noise!

The original Peru Lima Temple The Noise, Noise, Noise Life in Lima is starting to feel normal except…a few things.  We can’t get our heads around the noise at night. This week our neighbor (the door across from ours) decided to have a party. It started at 9:30. They cleared some furniture into the hallway and left the door open…  No big deal. But they had a very powerful stereo with very loud music. The music made our floor bounce. The worst part however was the DJ. The apartment is only about 1000 sq feet and THEY HAD a DJ with full volume speakers. Everyone in their house could hear him as well as everyone within a square mile. It only lasted until about 11:30 but that’s when the rave party started across the street. Our whole building was shaking from that. It lasted until 3 am. I guess we’re old. One of our mission assignments is to teach an Emotional Resilience class for the new missionaries. There are 10 lessons and are found in the Gospel Library. They teach strategies ...
