Yes, that's right this dog doesn't have any hair. They are fairly common here. You would think that after more than 8 months here the weeks would start to blend, but that’s just not the case. Every week has its unique experiences and challenges. There just isn’t a typical week. Our week started with a great visit to our favorite beach, Playa Bahia Blanca. It is about an hour North of here. Getting there can be an adventure of its own. We travel on the Pan-American Highway for most of the way and then through some neighborhoods that are filled with incomplete houses. One of the service missionaries told us that it could be a little sketchy driving through those neighborhoods but we never have felt that way. This week was the last week before public school started up again. It was a little less busy than last time which has never been real busy.  It’s really fun to see families playing together at the beach. This week we had a surprise visit to the Temple with one of the new memb...

Taken at sunset, looking from our chapel to the West. And the work continues! This week was a busy week of meeting with our new friends. It’s amazing to see someone join the Church and watch their life change. Most people here are Catholic, but that is mostly due to tradition. There are Catholic churches here and there, but not enough to accommodate for as many as say they are Catholic. As we walk through the neighborhoods, you see small community churches that are not of the Catholic kind. Occasionally, they are having their meetings as we walk by. We have never seen one with more than 20 or so people. To most people, belonging to a church means to attend once in a while when there is nothing else to do or on special occasions. One of our challenges is to help new members realize (they have been taught this by the missionaries all along but need reinforcement) that continuing on the covenant path is the way to endure to the end. Becoming a part of the Church and not just a passenger, ...

At the risk of sounding like a young, trunky missionary, it’s hard to believe that we only have 4 months left on our mission. We feel like we’re just getting started. Our experience here is more than we could have imagined. We have many great experiences everyday. Of course, the most special of those involve our interaction with new members and teaching them about taking the opportunity to continue to make covenants that will bring them closer to Christ and keep them on the covenant path. Every time we talk to a new member about how they are now a member of the House of Isreal, they get to enjoy the blessing that God gave to Abraham and his family, and we feel blessed ourselves. What an amazing gift we have from the restoration of the Gospel and the Priesthood. Through baptism, we gain access to this amazing strength and clarity. Wow, that’s a deep start to our report. ON the lighter side of things, our moto-taxi has been running a little rough and the shifting is a bit loose, so I mad...

Peru does chicken right. we share a whole chicken for under $20 I’m not sure where to start. This week (ending 2-23-25) was maybe one of the busiest and best weeks of our mission. As far as we are concerned a good week needs to start with a trip to the beach. I have mentioned Playa Bahia Blanca before. It is less than an hour away and seems to be fairly undiscovered. We found out one of the reasons why. One of our friends told us that the neighborhood around the beach could be a little dangerous. It’s kind of crazy to think about, but it’s a relatively new area of Lima with mostly unfinished houses that are being finished. As far as we are concerned, property values would be in the millions if it were the United States. The weather is mild year-round, and you have a view of the ocean from almost everywhere. This is probably the time of year when the beach would be the busiest, yet it doesn’t feel busy at all. We had a great time and we’ll be back. I want to say something about th...
