Caroling with the district This is going to be a short one. I’m already more than a week behind. This post is for the week ending Dec 15, 2024. The biggest event of the week was transfers. We had some really great missionaries go home. It seems to get a little harder each time because these were missionaries that we have spent more time with. When missionaries get to the end of their time they seem so strong to us. They can do hard things and they can do it with a spirit of love and commitment. They can teach with power and authority and they can invite with compassion and love. We are going to miss them all. We hope we get to see them some time in the future.  During the month of December the missionaries in our mission get to use Facebook as a missionary tool. Normally our missionaries do not use it. Mainly I think because they have a lot of teaching opportunities without it. However, Christmas time gives them the opportunity to share wonderful messages of the hope that Christ br...

On the way to the store in the MotoTaxi Ok, now we are caught up. This report is for the week ending 12-8-2024. One of the big highlights of the week has been teaching 2 Young Single Adults who have been good friends for a long time. They are young women who are 23 and just finishing University. One in law, she wants to go on and become an investigator, and the other in business, she is going into the workforce. They were baptized a week ago. One of the young women’s mother has been a member for 2 and a half years and is the Relief Society President in their Ward. The missionaries have been teaching the friends at the mother’s house. We get why the Elders teach them at the mother’s house. She owns a restaurant and feels a duty to keep the missionaries fed. So they teach and eat every Monday night. Missionaries have an amazing ability to create these wonderful situations.  When we first meet with a new member we have a short little lesson about how they are now part of the Ho...

Papa Relleno, Maybe one of the best street foods in the world!   I’m a week behind on my weekly report so I hope today is the makeup day. This blog is for the week ending on December 1, 2024 (Thanksgiving week).  One of the highlights of being a senior missionary is meeting members and helping them along the covenant path. If you remember several weeks ago we had a missionary activity where we acted out Lehi’s dream. The hermano who played Lehi is a wonderful faithful member. We don’t remember his name (names are hard here), we just call him Lehi. We love to visit him and his wife. They are always so kind and encouraging. This week we talked about the light we can share with others. As members of the church we get to and have a responsibility to share the light from Christ’s birth, life, and atonement.  This week there was an unexpected change in our mission. One of the Senior Couples that we saw almost every day and loved being around had to go home suddenly due to some ...

Names are different here. The names themselves and the order of the names. In the United States, we would never think about naming a child Jesus, but it’s a very common name here. Yesterday we had an appointment with a 16-year-old boy named Jesus and his 18-year-old sister named Sol. In other words, we met with the Son and the Sun. Sometimes the names are hard to remember because they are so different from what we hear. For example, when looking at our missionary roster, Kiomy, Piero, Sahi, Leoncio, and Yadhira are 5 first names in a row. (all happen to be Hermanas). It’s hard to remember names in the best of circumstances it’s extra hard when it’s a name you have never heard. When someone tells us their name they usually have to say it several times before we hear  it right. It’s usually a little easier when we have them spell their names. Now let’s talk about the order of names. We are still trying to figure this out. Everyone seems to have two given names like we have a first na...
