More missionaries, more new members!   Another wonderful week in the Peru Lima North Mission. This is a report for the week of January 19th, 2025. This week was full, to say the least. Every once in a while in the mission, one of the members of the Area Presidency performs a “tour” of the mission which really is a couple of zone conferences, a few interviews after each zone conference, and a mission leadership council. It felt like a lot of stress. Elder Villar from the area presidency was the visiting authority. He was wonderful. He was a great teacher. The missionaries all loved his messages. He spent a lot of time helping the missionaries understand and be more committed to their missionary purpose: inviting others to come unto Christ. The extra stress was mostly just self-imposed. It comes from wanting to put your best foot forward. In the end, it turned out great. One of the week's highlights was spending time with new members helping them find names of family members so they ...

Off to do house inspections with Elder Napa For the week ending Jan 12, 2025 Everything seems to be getting  back to normal after Christmas and New Years. If there is such a thing as normal. Maybe there isn’t a normal as a Senior Missionary in Lima Peru. We still call missionaries to encourage and invite them to be consistent and effective in language study. This week we started a new task, inspecting missionary apartments. The goal is to do several each week so every 2 transfers (a transfer is 6 weeks) all the apartments can be inspected. The primary purpose of the inspections as we see it is to make sure the apartments are safe and have everything that the missionaries need to be healthy and happy. With over 70 houses things break every week. Some missionaries are really good about letting us know about those things and  others seem to be unaware.  The second reason to do the inspections is to encourage the missionaries to keep their apartments clean. Remember the missi...

Wilson having too much fun with Boobie and Pop-pop This is our report from the week of Dec 29, 2024 - Jan 5, 2025. Yep, another week behind. For most of this week, we were just trying to keep up with Wilson, the 2-year-old. That’s right, it took two of us, and here it is a week later, and we’re still tired! We had a great time though and it was worth the energy spent. Madison and Corbin spent several days in Cusco and Machu Picchu so we had that time with Wilson. He loved riding in the moto taxi and we walked around the neighborhood several times. We live on the 3rd floor and have windows that overlook the street. Wilson loved sitting at the window and saying “hola” to everyone as they passed by. I’m sure it was a treat for them to see a little blond 2-year-old saying “hi”. Madison and Corbin returned to Lima in time to experience New Year's Eve. Wow! It felt like a war zone here. There were about 15 minutes of fireworks and firecrackers to celebrate the new year.  We were told tha...

Christmas week: For many reasons, it was hard to get much missionary work done this week. During Christmas, the country comes to a halt. The streets are not nearly as busy and noisy. It was very hard to find people home and if they were home, to find them available. Christmas is a family time and so it is here also. We made gifts for most of the people (new members) we have been visiting. On Christmas day we drove around trying to find people home and available to give them their gift. We didn’t give any out.  Christmas morning we invited the missionaries in our district over to our house for a Christmas breakfast. We made a couple of big egg casseroles and lots and lots of pancakes. We found out in the Dominican Republic that missionaries love pancakes. After eating the missionaries played games for a while and then later went to the Stake Center for more Christmas activities before they resumed their work. The Hatches, the new senior couple, came over to help us with the pancakes...
