Valentine's lunch with the Hatches! This is for the week ending 2-16-2025. When you live in a place where the annual rainfall is less than 1 inch, when it rains you really take notice. We had a day this week where it rained off and on for most of the day. Seven months ago we wouldn’t have called in rain, but now we are, and we’re sticking to it. It probably would be called off and on “drizzle”. Anyway, we have a picture to prove it.  This week we had Zone Conferences. They happen every 6 weeks. Usually they take 3 days with 2 zones coming to the Mission office each day. We love this time every 6 weeks because we get to see all the missionaries and find out how they are doing. There is a powerful energy when 50-60 missionaries get together to get training and inspiration from their Mission Leaders. Our Mission Leaders are the best. They have a great love for the Savior, His work and His missionaries. We enjoy hearing them teach and testify.  One of the best parts of Zone Confer...

Yo y mi mujer in the Hood This is our report for the week ending the 9th of Feb 2025. Last week we had a great experience finding family names for 2 friends who are new members of the Church. This week we were able to go to the Temple with one of them. The one that didn’t come had a last-minute schedule change. The missionaries in the office were the missionaries who taught them and so they were able to go to the Temple also. It wasn’t real clear whether we were invited to come or not. We have all heard of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) I have FSUWBI ( Fear of Showing Up Without Being Invited). We sort of decided that since the Elders had spent so long with these 2 new members we might be crowding in on their glory moment. However, at the last minute we decided that these young missionaries are just young and weren’t really thinking like that and in fact, weren’t really thinking at all (like most young men 6 years out of Primary).  We decided we needed to go and provide a little shephe...

Playa Bahia Blanca This report is for the week ending Feb 2, 2025. Some weeks feel busier than others. This was one of those weeks. We continued to do house inspections. Some of the inspections I did were of apartments that were closed. Houses are closed for one of 3 reasons, it’s unsafe or not well maintained, the area is not as productive and it’s better to use the missionary resources in other areas, or the landlord is unwilling to pay their legal taxes. We could dive deep into the last one, but the Church is very committed to obeying the law, We are even willing to pay the landlord the extra amount it takes for them to pay the taxes, but many will still not pay.  The houses that are closed because of disrepair can be pretty messy. The house gets run down and the missionaries seem to care less and less. Often those are the houses that missionaries have been in for a long time and they have accumulated a lot of junk (garbage). Anyway, not my favorite type of house inspection. Som...

Two of our best friends, New members. Sorry, I’m a week behind again so I'm going to make this quick and just highlight a few things this week. Since we have been here in Peru we have had Transfers that have consisted of more new missionaries than missionaries leaving. That means new apartments and new areas need to be opened. Some transfers have been a net gain of more than 20 missionaries. This week we had a transfer where only 2 new missionaries came into the mission. An Hermana from Columbia and an Elder from Peru. They both are going to be great additions to our mission. On the other side of things, 5 missionaries finished their missions, and 2 more left after their visas came in. So a net loss of 5 missionaries. Now we are starting to deal with closing some houses, some permanately and some for a couple of months. Even though there were only 2 new missionaries almost all of the companionships were affected on transfer day. We counted that out of 70+ companionships, only 8 wer...
