On the way to the store in the MotoTaxi

Ok, now we are caught up. This report is for the week ending 12-8-2024. One of the big highlights of the week has been teaching 2 Young Single Adults who have been good friends for a long time. They are young women who are 23 and just finishing University. One in law, she wants to go on and become an investigator, and the other in business, she is going into the workforce. They were baptized a week ago. One of the young women’s mother has been a member for 2 and a half years and is the Relief Society President in their Ward. The missionaries have been teaching the friends at the mother’s house. We get why the Elders teach them at the mother’s house. She owns a restaurant and feels a duty to keep the missionaries fed. So they teach and eat every Monday night. Missionaries have an amazing ability to create these wonderful situations.

When we first meet with a new member we have a short little lesson about how they are now part of the House of Israel and as members, they get to have the same covenants that God made with His ancient Prophets. We try really hard to show them what a privilege and responsibility is to be part of the House of Israel. They have just started this wonderful journey on this amazing path. When they heard the discussions from the missionaries and decided to get baptized they had a hope that this journey was going to be something great. When we meet with them we try to help them understand a little more about how great it is. These two young women are just starting and it was super fun to shed a little light on the path.

Every day, especially this time of the year, the mission office receives packages for the missionaries. The mission area is small, but it is still a rather large process to get the packages out the the missionaries. Besides the packages missionaries need supplies for their missionary work and they have to replace items that wear out or break in their apartments. In our mission, we call the PROCESS of getting packages and supplies to the missionaries, “Paquetes Seminales” (weekly packages). This PROCESS is such big PROCESS that it doesn’t really happen every week. It’s more like once every 2 or 3 weeks. The PROCESS takes a LARGE amount of organizing everything according to districts (6-8 Missionaries), 16 in all. That has been one of the big projects that we have been assisting with this week. It not only consists of organizing the packages, but often buying the needed household supplies. There are more than 70 houses and 150 missionaries (most of which are only 6 years out of primary) Things like toasters, brooms chairs and frying pans need to be replaced. The Palmers usually do it. They are gone! The Hatches have never been through this PROCESS so we are all pitching in to make this happen. This took a LARGE part of our time this week.

One of the resources we have is the Stake Center Family History room. We live close and it is located in a very accessible place. We have met here in the past with new members. This week we met with 2 different new members one who is 18 and one who is 67. We helped them set up accounts and start the process (not capitalized) of finding family members and preparing their names for work in the Temple. The 2 ends of the spectrum as far as life experience, but they are in the same point of their journey on the Covenant Path. I have said missionary work is fun? This is one reason why!

In our mission, we have a service missionary who owns a business and has a family,  but feels like he has more time to give to the Lord. He has been working in the Temple but has now started helping in the Peru Lima North Mission. He comes in about 10 hours a week and helps wherever he can. His local knowledge is very valuable. He knows where to get things and how hings are done here. It has been really great to get to know and work with him. This weekend we went to his restaurant and then went with his family to see a little side street that was decorated for Christmas. We went there with the Hatches. The food was really good. Here is a link to the video of the decorations( Comas Christmas Lights) The quality of my video is not the highest.

I that’s enough for this week. We hope you all have a great week and remember reflect the Light of Christ on all those around you.
