And On We Go!
La obra misional continues in the Peru Lima North Mission. And we love doing our share. Sometimes it feels like we are searching for things to do, trying to find ways to be productive. Everyone we know is super busy in the day and they get home around 8 pm. This gives us the daytime to be productive. This week we filled that time with working in the office, helping to get an apartment ready for a new senior couple and putting together some presentations that will help us spread the good news of the “My Covenant Path” Program. Of course, there’s always time for Gospel and language study. We need a lot of both!
We had a missionary activity in our Ward this week. It was simple and to tell the truth, I was a little worried about how it was going to work out. We acted out Lehi’s dream of the Tree of Life. I was the angel that guided him in the dream. I would say they did some typecasting for that role. Angel?... Check. Guide to a dark and dreary place? Double check! Despite my doubts, it was really fun. They had the audience participate. They were tempted to let go of the iron rod which led to the Tree of Life and the Delicious fruit (tangerine). Hermana Borup was one of the tempters (more typecasting) in the great and spacious building. The tempters used candy and other sweets which proved to be very effective. Most of the people let go! After everyone understood they had just chosen the “world” over the “Love of God”. They all repented and returned to the rod and made it to get the fruit. (side note, those who let go, got both the sweets and the fruit, I say no fair!)
We received a new Senior Missionary couple this week. They are from Trujillo Peru. They are both about 5 feet tall. Hermana is a little bit taller than Elder. They are going to be amazing! They have an apartment in one of the Wards which is about in the middle of the mission. They live about 4 miles away and it takes about 35 minutes to drive there. We are going to meet with them in a week or two and share notes on how to work together. Speaking of senior missionaries, we also said goodbye to a couple who have been in the Peru Lima West Mission for 18 months. They wanted to serve 23 months but are going home to help with some family concerns. They are going to finish their mission by serving from home. We wish we could have spent more time with them. They are great people.
We spent some time this week with an Elder from Columbia. He went home due to a very unexpected injury to his leg. He is being told that he will be home for about a month while he recovers. He’s planning on being back in 2 weeks. He loves his mission and he’s a good missionary. I hope he gets back sooner! He got to see my acting this week. He said it needs some work. One of the highlights of our mission is spending time with young, obedient, and faithful missionaries. It brings light to our lives!
The greatest joy of our mission is spending time with new members of the church. We teach simple lessons like what is the Aaronic priesthood and the Young Women’s program. This week we had a lesson with 2 sisters and talked about talking to their Bishop and getting a Temple Recommend. We invited them to talk to him this week. They accepted and we will soon be planning a trip to the Temple. I wish I could adequately describe the spirit we feel when we are with them. Their eagerness to learn and their enthusiasm for the Gospel is infectious. It is lighting a fire within us to be more engaged and energetic. It is wonderful and itt never gets old to be with these new members.
We love the work and we love you all.
Your friends,
Hermana Y Elder Borup
