And another busy week in the books. This week, we had Zone Conferences. They were done in the usual schedule of 3 days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) with 2 zones coming to the Stake Center where the mission office is located. This building sits on the southernmost edge of our mission boundary. Since the mission is only about 11.5 miles long and 5 miles wide, it is not too difficult for everyone to come into the office. However, at times (depending on traffic) it can take as much as 1.5 hours to come in from the farthest areas of the mission. The mission leaders also plan some of their missionary interviews right after the conferences. The teaching is always great at Zone Conferences, but the gathering is the most enjoyable part. We know all the missionaries and love them all. We talk to them about their language study, and we see them at house inspections. It is a joy to see them whenever we see them, but especially at Zone Conferences. It seems to be a time of celebration when we can recognize that we are all in this great work together. Our part is mostly just support, helping set things up and helping things to run smoothly. We do have a small portion where we recognize missionaries for reaching language learning milestones. This is mostly for those learning English.
One of our duties (mostly Hermana Borup) at Zone Conferences is to get needed housing and teaching supplies to the missionaries. Since all the missionaries are coming into the office, it is a great time to give them the things they need. I discussed this in more detail in the last blog. Hermana Borup also has a free garage sale at zone conference. During our inspections, we often find clothes in the houses that have been left behind by departing missionaries. Anything that seems like it might have life left in it is gathered and either cleaned by Hermana Borup or by the same cleaning service that cleans the missionaries' clothes. She then takes those clothes and displays them in a very garage sale fashion for missionaries to take first come, first serve. Most of the stuff gets taken, and it can be a lot. The things that are not taken, we put on the sidewalk by our house where it is usually gone within 20-30 minutes.
AS great as it is to see the missionaries during Zone Conference it was even greater to see McKenzie, Luke, Sawyer, and McCoy. They came in Saturday night, and we got to spend most of the next week with them; more on that in the next blog.
I’m going to end this here, We had a great week. We met new people. We invited them to come to Christ and we got to see all of our fellow missionaries and then to top it all off we got to see family. A week that can’t be beat!
Until next week,
