| Little Caesar and Little Hermana |
This week seemed to fly by. I’m late again at writing this report. We spent a little more time in the office than usual. Hermana Manly was able to go home and help with a couple of new grandbabies. (The personal sacrifice of Mission Leaders is one of the evidences of the true church!) With her being gone we were needed to help with some of the logistics of meetings. We continue to meet with new members and help them move forward on the covenant path. We had a chance to help a young adult set up her account in Family Search and since she has an aunt who is a member she linked to several relatives. It never gets old to see how excited people are when they find some of their ancestors that they had never seen before. The excitement never gets old but it happens every time.
One of the meetings we helped with was the training for the missionaries who have been on their mission for 6 weeks and their companions and the training for those who have been on their missions for 12 weeks and their companions. Because we have had 2 very large groups come into the mission over the last 12 weeks way more than half of the missionaries were involved in the training. We love to see these new missionaries again. We see them on the first day and sometimes wonder if they will make it. 6 weeks later they seem like they might be able to do it. By 12 weeks they seem well-adjusted and ready to face any challenge the missions will bring. 12 weeks- this may be one of the biggest miracles of missionary work!
I have mentioned a man who came to church and has been taking the lessons from the Hermanas in our Ward. He referred himself because he wanted to know more about what we taught about Christ. As he learned more he is now committed to being baptized this Saturday. I sat by him in Priesthood meeting where we had a great discussion from the conference talk Be Thou Clean. The members of the quorum all seemed to take part. He shared an experience from when he was traveling in Spain and went to a church meeting that helped him feel a need to repent. After the meeting, I thanked him for sharing his experience and he said he wanted to contribute in some way because everyone else was. He’s going to be a good member
The highlight of the week was going to the Temple to do Baptisms with a new member who is a Young Single Adult. I think I have mentioned her. She was Baptized about a month ago. Her mother had passed away a couple of months before her baptism. When she learned about baptisms for the dead from the missionaries she wanted to be baptized for her mother. We got to go with her. Hermana Borup helped her get the information in the system so that she could do the baptism. She invited a couple of her new friends from the ward and her new boyfriend ( a returned missionary in the Stake) performed the baptisms. He also baptized me. I had a couple of fun names, one was named Juan Bautista … and the other Abraham Lincoln…(not bad for a night's work). We ended the evening by taking the group out to dinner. We have a favorite chicken place (there are chicken restaurants on every corner and most of them are good) that is close to the temple. It’s not expensive to us ($7 a plate) but we got the idea it was a real big treat for them. The whole evening turned out to be a really big treat for us.
As the work goes on, sometimes we wonder how big our part is, but then we remember that how big our part is doesn’t really matter as long we are part of the work. It’s not a big offering but it’s an offering and we love giving it.
Until next time
Your friends
