| Carrots are amazing in Peru |
Did we mention the traffic is crazy here? We are 2 for 2 on our missions as far as having crazy traffic. I have been studying to take the exam to get a driver's license. There are laws and for the most part, they are very reasonable (except the one that says you can only have the number of people in your car that is allowed based on the type of vehicle EXCEPT, you are allowed to have more if there are babies in the laps of anyone not in the front row). When we get in taxis I tell them I am studying for the exam and I’m surprised to find out that there are traffic laws here. The response is always the same. Yes, there are laws on paper but in the street they don’t always count. There is a law that says a driver must yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. I have NEVER seen it happen! There is a law that says you must turn left from the left lane it is much more common for someone to turn left from the right lane. It does make life fun and precious.
Our friend from the gym was dropped by the missionaries. We were told that she is not progressing. She has been invited to come to church 3 times and hasn’t come yet. We respect the young missionaries, but we’re not ready to give up. The young missionaries are busy and have many others they are teaching. We have a friend that we know who needs the joy of being part of God’s church. We are going to keep visiting and inviting. We have that luxury. We have that vision for her and her family.
This week we have a few really great experiences helping New members open an account on “Family Search” and finding family members' names to take to the Temple. It is super fun to see these young adults get fired-up about finding these names. Hermana Borup is the expert in this area and she just needs to point them in the right direction and then they are off to the races! There is this feeling of excitement that takes over the new member. The keys of Elijah have been restored and we get to see some of the fruits of it.
I am going to end here. The work moves on. Most of the time it’s not as fast as we want but it moves on like a “rough stone rolling” and we enjoy playing our little part in it!
Until next time, your friends,
Hermana Y Elder Borup.
